This is an ideal peak for people who have had no prior experience of ice trekking and/or would like to do an preparation and acclimatisation climb before tackling longer and higher climbs.

Depart from La Paz to Laguna Zongo where we will set up camp. We will then take a 1 hr walk to the base of the Huayna Potosi glacier and will spend the rest of the day practising walking, climbing and abseiling on the glacier. Early to bed.

An early departure (3am) from the camp to the base of Charkini. The first three hours will be along a combination of road and trail, when we then don crampons and head onto the ice for a 2-3 hour trek on the ice to the summit. Return to the campsite and transport back to La Paz in time for lunch.

Did you know?

With the disappearing snow on the ski slope of Chacaltaya, Charquini is number one on the list of alternatives for a replacement site. Bolivia is proud to have the highest ski slope in the world, it would be a shame to lose that.
